About Me
I’m Sophie Mathewson - a creative producer & content specialist.
I produce a range of content across a variety of formats, nurture big ideas, wrangle budgets, develop teams, and have a thorough appreciation for good storytelling. Stories that provoke emotion and are supercharged with art direction, creative design and entrepreneurial spirit.
I'm also a mum of two smaller storytellers.
A bit of background
I completed a Masters Degree in Production Design and Producing at The WA Screen Academy in 2009, where I was the recipient of the University Excellence Award for my year group. Upon graduating, I was nominated for Best Production Designer in the WA Screen Awards for my work on the short film ‘Stuffed’, and went on to work on a number of West Australian feature films then to Victoria to work in television.
I cut my teeth professionally working as an Executive Producer’s Assistant for the Australian serial drama Neighbours, but found my niche when I moved into the digital industry. At multi-platform production company Studio Ish, I produced multiple projects for web and smartphone app and developed marketing campaigns for brands such as AFL, Cadbury, Penguin Publishing, and the ABC.
After having children and moving regionally, my most recent work is connected to the tourism sector. I produce a regional tourism magazine (Mumbrella Travel Publication Award Winner in 2022), and produced an online documentary series in 2017, The Kununurra Kid, which was a finalist in the Australian Screen Producer’s Awards for Best Factual Online Series.
Projects I like
I’m passionate about those invisible stories that aren’t often told. Stories of an injustice or those that communicate a message in that liminal space between two points of view.
To me, it’s important to share messages that might enact positive change. Something as simple as adjusting one’s daily habits or as profound as leading them into advocacy.
